What is Restumping ?
Restumping Or Reblocking is changing old deteriorated and failed stumps into new stumps, mostly changing old rotten and deteriorated redgum timber stumps into new concrete or steel stumps. concrete stumps are widely used for they are cheaper, durable, and available and they come in standard stumps (used mostly in new homes and extensions), Hangers and threaded stumps.
Signes that restumping or re-blocking is needed.
- Uneven floor level, Floor out of level.
- Cracks on walls, ceilings, plaster, floors, and tiles.
- Sticking, jamming, doors and windows and not opening and closing properly and winging.
- Gaps between skirting boards and floorboards.
- Oil following to one side of your frying pan.

Steel stumps are mostly used when the stumps are longer than 1800mm because concrete stumps longer than 1800mm according to regulation must increase in cross section to 125X125mm and the stumps are too heavy to handle therefore most of the manufacturers stopped making them.
Redgum stumps are durable up to 50-60 years in ideal conditions but when effected by moisture and poor ventilation conditions it deteriorate much faster. That portion of the redgum stump above the ground might look perfect while the part imbedded in the ground completely rotten.

Most restumping or re-blocking works are performed from under the property and clients can stay in the property. When there is no clearance to do the job from under the property then the clients might need to evacuate. We do our best to carry out the job from underneath for our client’s convenience and to save the floorboards from damage. When doing the job from inside we take all the care not to damage the floorboards.
Average duration of completion for restumping or re-blocking job is about one week.
Building permit is required for restumping jobs.
Average number of stumps for weatherboard homes are about 80 stumps, for brick veneer homes about 60 stumps and for double bricks are about 30 stumps.
